A New York State-certified physical education teacher, Carisa Gaylardo serves as a fitness professional at Lifetime Athletic Fitness, located in Garden City, New York. Over her career, Carisa Gaylardo has regularly shared her talents with the community through diverse initiatives, including helping to organize women’s self-defense seminars at the Young Women's Leadership School of Astoria, a New York City public school established in 2006.
The Middle School Team from the Young Women’s Leadership School of Astoria won the 2019 Computer Science for All Hack League Final, and, to honor the achievement, New York State Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris presented the team with a resolution. In part, the resolution commends the students on their dedication to performing at a high level in academic and scientific competition.
A component of the Computer Science for All initiative, the Hack League program invites students to solve problems affecting their communities using open data and computer science concepts. The Middle School Team of the Young Women’s Leadership School competed in this year's Hack League alongside about 1,700 other students from across the five boroughs of New York City. The team won the competition for developing an app aimed at combating pollution.
